Mackenzie Conti, a 2023 graduate of Cal State Monterey Bay’s Sustainable Hospitality & Tourism Management program, is now the General Manager at Spa Adeline at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa. Her story is a great example of how passion and openness to new experiences can shape a meaningful career in hospitality.

Mackenzie’s interest in hospitality started early. She was inspired by the attention to detail and care she saw at Disney, where even small moments created lasting impressions. That spark grew into a full-on passion during her time at Cal State Monterey Bay, where she participated in service-learning and hands-on projects that showed her the real impact hospitality can have on individuals and communities.
Today, Mackenzie leads the team at Spa Adeline, helping create a welcoming, peaceful environment for guests. She manages day-to-day operations and keeps everything running smoothly, all while ensuring that every guest leaves feeling refreshed and cared for.
One of her biggest takeaways from college and her career so far? Be open. “Jump on any opportunity you can take and be open to others,” she advises. Hospitality is more than just hotels and events—it’s a wide and diverse industry, and being flexible can lead you to unexpected and fulfilling places.
She also encourages students to surround themselves with like-minded people. Those who uplift, support, and push you to be your best self. That encouragement and energy helped her grow at CSUMB and continue to inspire her in her professional journey.
Mackenzie’s path shows how local education, paired with curiosity and community, can lead to big things. She’s a reminder that leadership in hospitality starts with passion and a willingness to keep learning.
