Transportation

Traffic congestion impacts visitors, workforce commutes and local residents. The Transportation Agency of the Monterey Peninsula (TAMC) currently has two major projects in progress that directly affect the hospitality industry on the Monterey Peninsula - Highway 68 Safety and Traffic Flow and State Route 156 Safety Improvements.

MCHA Position

We strive to:

  • Continually monitor the progress on Highway 156 through monthly Government Affairs Committee reports. Highway 156 is the major link connecting the Bay Area, Highway 101 and North Monterey County to the Monterey Peninsula. MCHA supports all 156 improvements.
  • Monitor and review the Highway 68 project as it becomes available. Highway 68 is currently at gridlock during the morning and afternoon commute periods. TAMC is proposing a series of 9 roundabouts at a cost of $50 million. The project is still in the environmental review stage. MCHA has not taken a position on the project and remain skeptical.
